KUANTAN (10 Sept 2013) –The Malaysian Under-23 squad have qualified for the Merdeka Tournament final after defeating Myanmar U23 2-1 at the Darul Makmur Stadium last night.
Wan Zack Haikal Wan Noor turned hero for the day with a stunning freekick to put Malaysia in Saturday’s final, with the last group match against Thailand on Wednesday now a mere formality. It was also Wan Zack’s freekick that led to Malaysia’s equaliser.
In the meantime, Thailand inched closer to the Merdeka Tournament final after defeating Singapore Under-23 1-0 at the Darul Makmur Stadium.
Kairung Threejagsang’s charges will only have to muster a draw with Malaysia in the final group match on Sept 11 to book a place in Saturday’s final.
