PETALING JAYA (13 Oct 2018) – Malaysia staged a second-half fightback to beat Sri Lanka in a friendly that was played last night at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
While Malaysia created history by fielding their first ever naturalised player in Mohamadou Sumareh, it was Sri Lanka who delivered the shocker when they grabbed the lead on 29 minutes as Asela Madushan capitalised on a defensive mistake.
But the Malaysians under head coach Tan Cheng Hoe came back stronger in the second half through Norshahrul Idlan Talaha with the easiest of tap-ins in the 65th minute as Adam Nor Azlin then headed home a Syazwan Andik twelve minutes later to take a 2-1 advantage.
Then came Sumareh – originally from Gambia – with a deflected shot on 85 minutes and then another in injury time to give Malaysia the win.
