PHNOM PENH (5 Jan 2012) – Ly Kimchhun, the chairman of Preah Khan Reach FC, felt that taking part in the Malaysia FA Cup is a great step for the Cambodian club. Preah Khan, the Hun Sen Cup winners in 2011, are the latest team to be invited to play in the Malaysia FA Cup, other than the LIONSXII from Singapore.
“The Malaysia FA Cup is a great step for us,” said Kumchhun.
“Nearly 200 players and staff are under my sponsorship. Sure, we can’t get money from football in Cambodia, but my dream is to see the better image of Cambodian football in national and international level,” said Kimchunn.
The first match for Preah Khan will be against Pulau Pinang with the 16 teams victorious in the first round advancing.
Rith Dikar, the Technical Director for Preah Khan, announced that there will be several changes to the club following the retirement of veteran striker Sam El Nasa and goalkeeper Ouk Mich.
“Only striker Mat Hassan (from Prek Pra Keila) is the new member for new season,” added Rith.
“We’ve promoted seven players from our youth team. We don’t have any problems up front or in midfield, but we need to strengthen our defence, because many of them are still young.”
