YANGON (26 Nov 2011) – Magway FC and Yadanarbon FC have picked up sports insurance packages for their players with a payout of up to KYAT1 million (USD 156,000) for accidental death during competition or training.
“This is good news for athletes from both teams. The sports insurance will cover their players if they are injured or involved in any accidents during matches or training. It shows the clubs value the players,” said Dr Mg Maung Thein, the general manager of Myanma Insurance.
“First Magway FC took out a policy and then one week later Yadanarbon FC did so as well. Sooner or later I believe all the football clubs in the Myanmar National League (MNL) will understand the value of sports insurance.”
Myanma Insurance introduced sports insurance in September 2007. The premium for the insurance is KYAT3000 (USD 468) a year per player and each club took out policies for 30 players in their squad.
Myanma Insurance will pay out up to KYAT800,000 (USD 125,000) in compensation if an insured athlete is injured.
