SINGAPORE (9 March 2012) – After defender Baihakki Khaizan, the further injury to striker Agu Casimir has put LIONSXII campaign in the Malaysia Super League in a stitch. Chief coach V. Sundramoorthy said that with the long list of injured players, he will have to make several revamps in preparation for the upcoming matches.
“We lost two players (in the 3-1 win over Felda United). I’m very concerned about the injuries,” said Sundramoorthy.
“I will have to check how many players I have. This is more worrying for me than my next opponents. It is going to be tough for us to pull through for the next few matches.”
The next match for the LIONXII will be on the road against Sarawak at the Sarawak Stadium in Kuching on 17 March 2012. They will then wrap up their fixtures in March with two home games – against Selangor on 20 March and then T-Team on 31st March.
Other than Baihakki and Agu, the other players on the doubtful list are Safuwan Baharudin, Jumaat Jantan, Shahir Hamzah, Safirul Sulaiman and also goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud. And this does not include those players who are currently serving National Service.
In the meantime, striker Khairul Amri has been given until the end of the month to prove that he is still worthy of a place in LIONSXII. Khairul, who had played for Indonesia Super League side Persiba Balikpapan previously, had been injured for close to a year but who is now fighting back to get in shape.
“The injury is getting better and I’ve already started running. So I’m confident that I can be back in training soon,” added Khairul.
