SINGAPORE (13 August 2009) – Singapore fell to a 4-3 loss on penalties to China in the inaugural National Day Challenge while the Malaysian Under-23 side held Kenya to a scoreless draw in a friendly last night.
At the National Stadium, the score at the end of regulation was 1-1 with striker Noh Alam Shah heading in the lead in the seventh minute before midfielder Yang replied for the Chinese in the 27th minute. In the shootout, Fazrul Nawaz and Aleksandr Duric failed to convert from the spot. In the meantime, at the Shah Alam Stadium, Malaysian head coach K. Rajagobal was satisfied with the performance of his Under-23 chargers in spite of the stalemate. “We played well. And the players should be lauded for that. The defence and the midfield did well although our strike force fell a little short. It is not easy to play against a physically strong side like Kenya,” said Rajagobal. The Malaysians will play China this Saturday at the same venue. |
