YANGON (20 July 2016) – A late, late strike deep in injury time landed Yadanarbon FC their fourth Myanmar National League crown when they beat Zwekapin United 1-0 at the Bahtoo Stadium.
The only goal of the game came late in injury time through Win Naing Soe as Yadanarbon added their fourth title following wins in 2009, 2010 and then 2014.
“Our players played with championship mentality, and finally we did it,” said Yadanarbon head coach Rene Desaeyere.
“We struggled a bit in the first half, but we came out attacking in the second and managed to improve our chances.”
With 47 points to their name from 18 matches played, Yadanarbon are 15 points ahead of second-placed Magwe with four matches still left to play for the end of the season.
Elsewhere, the disappointing season continued for Yangon United when they were held to a scoreless draw by Rakhine United as Ayeyawady United blasted Horizon 6-2 and Southern Myanmar edged Hantharwady United 3-2.
