BANGKOK (20 Sept 2008) – The FA of Thailand (FAT) have decided to postpone the annual King’s Cup series to January 2009 due to the commitment of several Asian teams for the fourth qualifying round of the 2010 World Cup.
The FAT had already maintained from the start that they would prefer teams in the top 10 bracket of Asia to take part in the 39th edition of the King’s Cup. But with the World Cup qualifying campaign to resume again, the initially planned November date have had to be pushed to two months later. As such, the 39th edition of the King’s Cup has been re-scheduled to 6-12 January 2009 – a week after the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 of which Thailand and Indonesia will be the hosts for the group stage. Thus far, only North Korea have confirmed their participation for the King’s Cup 2009 which hosts Thailand emerged champions in the last edition in 2007. |
