DILI (8 April 2015) – Top regional administrators from the Asian Football Confederation’s ASEAN Member Associations assembled in the Malaysian capital on Monday to attend the AFC Kick Off Regional Workshop 2015 on League Models and Governance.
The workshop, which also featured interesting case studies from the region, was attended by administrators from Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.
Football Association of Singapore President Zainudin Nordin, who was one of the workshop participants, stressed the importance of regional interaction for the overall development of football in the ASEAN Region.
“Football being so popular in the region, we must improve and these kinds of workshops will help us immensely to interact and get closer to each other,” said Nordin.
“There were interesting case studies and we also got input from FIFA and UEFA so the workshop will definitely help us to progress. At the same time we need to bring our ‘ASEAN Community’ motto to the sport sector so I took this workshop as an occasion to get closer to the football people from the region,” he added.
The one-day workshop was AFC Kick Off’s first ever attempt to assemble regional administrators to discuss issues related with league models and governance. Topics such as the Fundamentals of ASEAN League Governance, Models and Benchmarking and FIFA Regulations Governing Leagues and Competitions were discussed during the workshop.
Yangon United General Manager Kyaw Lin Htwe also hailed the programme as an ‘eye opener’ on the league governance structure.
“After learning these models and case studies I came to realise what mission and vision our federation should be setting for the future of Myanmar football,” he said.
“The content of this workshop could be very supportive for the leagues to develop as real professional league and of course the best thing was the close interaction amongst the regional administrators which will definitely help us to continue our interaction in the future,” Kyaw Lin added.
Australia, Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines are the four Member Associations from the ASEAN Region who are beneficiaries of AFC Kick Off programme.
