BANGKOK (11 Nov 2016) – Thailand head coach Kiatisak Senamuang said this week that he has welcomed the move to have the AFF Suzuki Cup count towards FIFA points as this will only make the tournament a lot more competitive.
Other than the draw to be crowned as the ASEAN champions of which Thailand are the defending champions and where they have been crowned four times alongside Singapore, the FIFA points at stake will also be important.
“I have always believed that when two FIFA members play in a recognised match, there must be ranking points at stake,” said Kiatisak.
“It makes the AFF Suzuki Cup even more important as it can help us gain more points.”
Thailand are in Group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup where they will take on hosts the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia.
