PETALING JAYA (19 April 2009) – Kelantan ended their 39 year wait for a place in a major cup final when they beat Negeri Sembilan in the semi-finals of the Malaysian FA Cup final last night.
Negeri Sembilan capitalized on their goal advantage from the first leg in Kota Baru to score their second goal just five minutes into the second leg through Mohd Asyraf Al Japri. But Kelantan duly fought back through Mohd Nor Farhan in the 48th minute before veteran striker Indra Putra Mahayuddin slammed home what was the winner four minutes later. With the score at 2-2, Kelantan made the cut for the FA Cup final based on the away-goal ruling. In the meantime, Selangor had striker Mohd Amri Yahyah to thank for their place in the final when he scored a brace for a 3-2 aggregate win over Perlis. Following a 1-1 deadlock in Kangar, former international Amri was on target in the 15th minute before Azi Shahril Azmi then grabbed the equalizer three minutes. And just when things seem to be heading into the dreaded extra-time, Amri was again on target in the closing stages of the match at the Shah Alam Stadium to make the difference. |
