PETALING JAYA (26 August 2012) – HOT favourites Kelantan bounced back from an opening day defeat and an early deficit against Kedah to register their first win in this season’s Malaysia Cup.
The FA Cup winners and Super League champions, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to neighbours Terengganu on Wednesday, edged the northerners 2-1 at Sultan Mohamad Stadium despite falling behind to a fourth minute goal from Khairil Muhaimnen.
The Kedah player sprung the offside trap before blasting the ball past substitute goalkeeper Mohd Shahrizan Ismail to give the visitors a dream start.
Shahrizan played in place of national No.1 Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, who missed the match after being involved in a car accident on Friday night.
