PETALING JAYA (23 August 2012) – Former champions Kelantan and Selangor did not have the start they were looking for in the Malaysia Cup 2012 when they failed to pick up the full points in their first games in the respective groups.
Kelantan fell to a 2-0 loss to neighbours Terengganu at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium while Selangor fared no better when they conceded a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sarawak at the State Stadium in Kuching.
In Kuala Terengganu, Francis Forkey Doe gave Terengganu the lead just three minutes in off a cross from Ismail Faruqi as Muslim Ahmad then added the finishing touch on 67 minute.
In Kuching, Selangor’s hope of winning their 33rd Malaysia Cup crown, suffered some setback despite taking the lead off Mohd Fitri Shazwan Riduan early in the tenth minute.
But Sarawak fought back with goals from Mohd Ashri Chuchu in the 18th minute and then the winner off Bobby Gonzales in the 64th minute for the full points.
Elsewhere, big spending Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) beat Kedah 2-0 at the Darul Aman Stadium as Pahang edged T-Team 3-2 at the Darul Makmur Stadium.
Perak were held to a 1-1 draw by Sime Darby at the Selayang Stadium, defending champions Negeri Sembilan held Felda United 1-1 at the Hang Jebat Stadium as Johor FC battled to a scoreless draw against LIONSXII in Pasir Gudang.
Selangor PKNS held Johor to a 1-1 deadlock at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.
