PETALING JAYA (18 Aug 2008) – Kedah kept their hopes of landing the treble this season alive when they made the final of the Malaysia Cup where they will take on Selangor this Saturday night.
The Northerners who had already bagged the Malaysian Super League crown and the FA Cup earlier this year, made sure of their place in the Malaysia Cup final with a close 3-2 aggregate win over Terengganu on the weekend. Kedah, who had thumped Terengganu 3-0 in the first leg several days earlier, were lucky to escape the clutches of a determined east coast side with a 2-0 defeat following a double from Malaysian international striker Mohd Ashaari Shamsuddin. In the meantime, Selangor made the final of the Malaysia Cup despite going down 1-0 to Johor FC in the second-leg, semi final off a header from Walter Ariel Silva. But with the 2-0 advantage they gained from the first leg in Shah Alam, Selangor made the final on a 2-1 aggregate. The 32-times Malaysia Cup champions will play Kedah – a repeat of the FA Cup final this year – in the final of the Malaysia Cup at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. For the record Kedah, who had also won the treble for the 2006-2007 season, are also in the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup. |
