JAKARTA (1 May 2010) – The Jakarta Selection team will be taking part in the Tokyo U14 International Youth Tournament which will be held at the Komazawa Olympial Park, Tokyo this week.
The 16 players who had already left for Japan’s capital city were selected in a recent age-group competition organised by the FA of Indonesia (PSSI). The U14 tournament is organised by the Tokyo City Council as part of their cooperative and friendship initiative with their ‘sister city’ through sports and culture. Those cities which have ‘sister city’ status with Tokyo are Jakarta, Rome, London, Paris, Moscow, Sao Paolo, Paris, Seoul and Beijing. “Last year, we finished the tournament eighth out of 11 participating teams – just ahead of Beijing, Paris dan Cairo. We are improving from year to year and we are learning to be better than the previous year,“ said Rinels Gideon, the head of the Indonesian delegation. “We hope the players will continue to make progress where they will then have the self-confidence when they play for the senior national team one day.“ For the Tokyo U14 International Youth Tournament , Indonesia have been grouped in Group B alongside Tokyo Fukugawa, Cairo and New South Wales.
