DILI (15 May 2015) – Thirty-one nations are celebrating AFC Grassroots Football Day which falls on May 15, double the number of Member Associations since its inception in 2013.
All children regardless of their level are to be given a chance to play football as AFC Grassroots Day is celebrated across Asia, with support equipment sent to the Member Associations to support their activities.
Grassroots football forms the basis for success at all levels of football and without strong and healthy roots, the tree will not flower – in other words, without strong grassroots, the youth and adult levels will not succeed.
AFC President Shaikh Salman said: “The annual AFC Grassroots Day is celebrated across Asia to underline the importance of investing in grassroots football. Children, today’s grassroots players, are tomorrow’s national team stars.”
Therefore, investment in grassroots is an investment for the future and Asia is the world’s fastest growing football market with huge potential.
Together, the AFC and its Member Associations can make that potential a reality.
