KUALA LUMPUR (10 Jan 2013) – The friendly match against Iraq is just the beginning for the FA of Malaysia (FAM) as they have lined up other matches as part of their preparation for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers which begins next month.
Malaysia have been placed in a tough Group D for the qualifying round of the AFC Asian Cup where they will be up against Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen.
“Since we will be playing against Qatar on 6 February in Doha (for the qualifying round of the AFC Asian Cup), we have lined a match against Iraq in UAE on 1 February,” said Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, the Malaysian team manager, who is also a vice president of the FAM. “But that is just the beginning.”
Other than the game against Iraq, the Malaysians have also confirmed matches against Uzbekistan and India (in September).
“We are also looking at playing against Oman (on 17 March) while at the same time, we have also written to other countries like Thailand (for a game on 7 June), Jordan (11 June), China (18 June), Taiwan (14 August) and South Korea Selatan (10 October).
“We hope that we can get the agreement from these countries to play these friendly games,” he added.
