MANILA (25 June 2011) – Ingolstadt 04 provided the Philippines national team with a dose of reality when they thumped the latter 4-0 in the third friendly match of the tour of Germany.
The Philippines national side had earlier scored identical 4-1 victories over Duren Selection and Bonner 19-Under.
But Ingolstadt 04, who plays in the second division of the Bundesliga, provided the Philippines with the hardest test yet in the friendly that was played in Bavaria.
Midfielder Andreas Buchner opened account for Ingolstadt 04 with the lead in the 14th minute before Fabian Gerber added the second goal in the 19th minute.
Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge then conceded an own goal at the half hour mark as Ingolstadt 04 then completed the rout with the fourth goal with five minutes remaining of the first half.
“We can only gain from the loss and look to get better,” said Philippines captain Aly Borromeo. “The loss was good for us, I say. They (Ingolstadt) were a decent side with a ton of experience.”
The Philippines national side last friendly match in the tour of Germany will be against third division side Darmstadt 98.
