JAKARTA (5 Oct 2009) – Indonesia’s season opening Community Shield between Persipura Jayapura and Sriwijaya FC has been moved to the Gelora Andi Matalatta, Mattoangin in Makassar.
The match will be played on 7 October 2009. The change in venue has had to be made due to the unavailability of the Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno (SUGBK) in Jakarta due to the upcoming Indonesian Presidential inauguration. “The plan by PT Liga Indonesia to have the Community Shield between Persipura and Sriwijaya FC at SUGBK in Jakarta is now cancelled,” said Djoko Driyono, the Chief Executive Officer of PT Liga Indonesia. “The Metropolitan Police felt that it is unwise to allow the game to be held so near the Presidential inauguration. They have not allowed any football activities in the capital city until after 20 October 2009 (the date of the inauguration). And we understand the situation.“ The Community Shield will see the champions of the Indonesian Super League 2008/2009 (Persipura) taking on the Copa 2008/2009 winner (Sriwijaya FC). |
