PHNOM PENH (7 June 2017) – Newly appointed Cambodian head coach Leonardo Vittorino is eager to crack Indonesia – a team which the former has never beaten in the last twenty years – when the two sides faced each other tomorrow night at the National Olympic Stadium.
And while Vittorino has chosen to select a blend of the older and younger players for the tie at home, he is still mindful of a team which made it all the way to the final of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016.
“The international friendly against Indonesia is very important for us. Indonesia are a strong team, we have not beaten them in 20 years. They are not in the Asian Cup qualifiers but they are preparing for the SEA Games in Malaysia,” added the Brazilian.
Vittorino’s first game in charge did not turn out well two months ago when Cambodia fell to a 7-0 loss to Jordan.
While Cambodia are using the game to prepare the team for the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers against Afghanistan (on 13 June 2017), the Indonesians are gearing up for the assault on the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in August.
