JAKARTA (29 August 2010) – The Indonesia Under-16 team plan to play two friendly matches as part of their preparation for the AFF U16 Championship which will be held in Solo on 20-28 September.
PSSI Technical Director Sutan Harharah and Mundari Karya, the chief coach of the Indonesia U16 team, made the announcement this week. “I have already received the confirmation from Nugraha Besoes (the secretary general of the PSSI) of the trip to Malaysia,” said Sutan. Added Mundari: “I was hoping that we could play at least two matches abroad as this will give the players invaluable experience in as far as their development is concerned.” There’s still no confirmation yet on the opponents they will be up against although it is likely that it will be against the Malaysian junior sides. “I have asked Nugraha whether it is possible to play against the Malaysian U-17 or U-19 team as this will force our players to work a lot harder,” added Sutan. The Indonesia U16 team will leave for Malaysia on 2 September where they have been slated to play the two friendlies on 4 and 6 September respectively. “It makes more sense just to bring 23 players to Malaysia as that will be the number allowed for the AFF U-16 Championship in Solo,” Sutan said. “After their return from Malaysia, the players will be given time off to celebrate Eid. They will be given around three to four days of rest with their families after which they will have to report to Solo for the meet.” |
