JAKARTA (28 Feb, 2008) – The Indonesian national Under-16 team will begin their campaign in the Quinta Division of the Uruguayan League on March 8 as part of a new approach by the Indonesian FA (PSSI) to form a national team of the future.
The team which have been training and playing friendly matches over the last month is under the tutelage of Cesar Payovich and where they will be playing in the Uruguayan Youth League to polish them further. And the Uruguayan coach has been busy assessing his charges in the last four friendly games and where he has come up with several pointers to improve the team. Payovich said that the Indonesian youth side need to improve their physiological ability and play more than just 55 minutes in any given game. He said that from the matches which they have played thus far, this inability to cope for the full 90 minutes meant that they always get punished late in the game. Another factor which needs improvement is in aerial duels which Payovich feels are lacking in both the defensive and offensive players. And this has led to several chances from crossings not going the way of the Indonesian forwards. “The change in the system to 4-3-1-2 has proven to be effective when we put Syamsir Alam just behind the two strikers. And the result has also been positive,” added Payovich. “Pressing in Uruguay is the same as it is in Europe. If the players hold on to the ball too long, they will lose it. The players must know when to hold the ball and when to release it with the long or short passes.” |
