JAKARTA (9 Oct 2010) – A seven-goal beating by Uruguay in a friendly was not exactly a great night out but for Indonesia national coach Alfred Riedl, it was several lessons learned ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 in two months.
The hosts showed that they have the players capable of scoring goals when Boaz Solossa grabbed the lead in the 17th minute but that was to be their only bright spark as FIFA World Cup semi-finalist Uruguay then turned up to the tempo for an Edinson Cavani’s equaliser in the 35th minute. “We were perhaps too hasty in the first 15 minutes of play. Sure we got the goal but after that, we fizzled out and that led to a loss of concentration,” said Alfred. For Alfred, the big defeat was not a surprise considering his team’s lack of preparation and also the world rankings of both teams were concerned – Uruguay are placed seventh while Indonesia are 131st. “There were several difficulties on our side and the score line was not a surprise. We just have to take lessons from the way Uruguay played in as far as the way they defended and when they went forward,” added Riedl. Added Bambang Pamungkas: “I hope that the fans will understand that there are a lot of new young players in the current national team and the coach is also new, so we will need time.” INDONESIA 1-Markus Horison, 6-Nova Arianto, 5-Maman Abdurahman, 8-Toni sucipto, 15-Firman Utina (Oktovianus Maniani), 11-Boaz Solossa, 2-M Ridwan, 16-Beny Wahyudi, 19-Ahmad Bustomi, 13-M Nasuha (Slamet Riyadi), 20-Bambang Pamungkas (Yongki Aribowo).
