JAKARTA (1 Oct 2010) – Indonesia will not go abroad to prepare for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 where their concentration will only be in training and playing matches at home.
Indonesia and Vietnam are the two hosts for the group matches of the AFF Suzuki Cup this year. As such, the team under newly-appointed chief coach Alfred Riedl will be playing at least four matches – against Uruguay and then Maldives on 8 October and 12 October respectively. In November, the Indonesian national side have planned games against China (21 Nov) and Timor Leste (24 Nov). “The national team management committee has drawn up all the matches to be played at home and as such, we had to turn down requests for matches by Kuwait, Vietnam and India which would have required the team to travel,” said Nugraha Besoes, the general secretary of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI). The head of the Indonesia National team Management Iman Arif, said that the first friendly game against Uruguay is important as a positive performance would give the players confidence for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010.
