JAKARTA (20 July 2013) – Indonesia put up a much improved performance tonight when they conceded just a 2-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the friendly that was played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
As compared to the 3-0 loss to the Dutch national team and then a 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal the previous week, the slim defeat to Liverpool was welcomed indeed for Indonesian chief coach Jacksen F. Tiago.
And tonight, following the decision to use Titus Bonay instead of Boaz Salossa, it certainly gave Indonesia more pace upfront. It was unfortunate that they fell behind in the tenth minute when new signing Philippe Coutinho slammed home the lead.
Indonesia then held off Liverpool for long periods before conceding the second goal through Raheem Sterling, three minutes from the end.
INDONESIA XI: Kurnia Meiga, Ruben Sanadi, Victor Igbonefo, M. Roby, Raphael Maitimo, Taufik, Hasim Kipuw, Vendri Mofu, Ahmad Bustomi, Sergio van Dijk, Titus Bonay.
LIVERPOOL FC: Simon Mignolet, Daniel Agger, Kolo Toure, Glen Johnson, Jose Enrique, Philippe Coutinho, Stewart Downing, Lucas Leiva, Steven Gerrard, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto.
