SINGAPORE (26 Nov 2008) – Singapore striker Khairul Amri could not hide his disappointment following his exclusion from the squad which will defend their title at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 next month.
Khairul, who scored the winner in the final of the biennial championship two years for Singapore to lift their third crown, suffered a broken foot in the recent RHB Singapore Cup. The 23-year-old was part of a Tampines Rovers club which edged the Young Lions for the third spot in the RHB Singapore Cup. “I’m really disappointed because there was no tackle which resulted in the injury. I just felt a ‘snap’ and then I fell. It happened in an instance and after that I just could not stand up,” said Khairul. “The x-ray revealed that I broke my left foot. I really felt like crying when the doctor told me the news. I have been looking forward to this tournament (AFF Suzuki Cup 2008) the whole year long as it is my opportunity to show my game at the regional level.” Khairul, who was recently crowned as the Best Young Player in the S-League, will miss the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 next month alongside another striker Fazrul Nawaz and defender Hariss Harun. |
