VIENTIANE (15 Dec 2009) – Malaysia’s Badrol Bakhtiar was confident of scoring against Laos last night where his two goals led them to a 3-1 win over the hosts at the Main Stadium.
“I was confident to score this time round and the constant chanting and shouting from the Laos fans did not bother me one bit,“ said the 21-year-old Badrol. “We had the same experience when we played against Manchester United previously and so I did not hesitate when I was presented with the chance. “The win over Laos is not only for us but also for the whole of Malaysia, who we knew will be watching the game from the telly. Now, our next mission will be to beat Vietnam to avenge the loss we suffered in the group match.’ Badrol first earned a call-up to the Malaysia national Under-20 side in 2005 where made his full major international debut in the AFC Youth Championship 2006 qualifiers. Badrol was also a part of the Malaysian U19 squad for the 2007 Champions Youth Cup. Malaysia’s appearance in the final of the SEA Games this year is their first since 2001 where they will be looking to win their first gold medal since 1989.
