BANGKOK (31 March 2009) – I AM Sport took advantage of a slip up on the part of Chonburi Bluewave to go top of the Thai Futsal League 2009 for the first time this year.
Chonburi conceded their first defeat of the season when they went down 6-4 to TOT FC while I AM Sport maintained their winning form with another consistent performance to set aside Nonthaburi 4-3. But Chonburi have no one to blame for their loss on the weekend where despite taking the lead through Kritsada Wongkeaw in the ninth minute, they allowed TOT to fight back with the equaliser in the 13th minute through Natawut Kongnimit. And barely four minutes into the second half Chonburi were again in front – this time with two quick goals for them to be 3-1 ahead following a double from Supawut Thueanklang (17th and 19th minute). But some poor defending later allowed Sermphan Khumthinkeaw to bag four goals (21st, 28th, 32nd and 39th minute) for TOT to be 5-2 in the lead for the first time in the game. Although Supawut gave Chonburi a glimmer of hope with their fourth goal on 27th minute, there was no way back for Chonburi when Kritsada conceded an own goal two minutes later. The script was almost the same for I AM Sport in their game against Nonthaburi when they found themselves done in by an early fifth minute goal from Piyawong Jangwayha. But Maykel Ferreira fought back for I AM Sport with the equaliser two minutes later before Piyawong then put Nonthaburi 2-1 in front at the half with the second goal on 15 minutes. The second half would prove pivotal for I AM Sport where a late rally saw them scoring three more goals through Maykel (35th), Narongsak Kongkeaw (28th) and Sarawut Jaipetch (32nd). Nonthaburi’s only goal after the break came off Silayut Klermyai in the 29th minute. In the meantime, defending champions Port Authority of Thailand are still without a win after four matches into the new season when they were held to a disappointing 3-3 draw by Royal Thai Navy.
