VIENTIANE (9 Dec 2009) – Goalkeeper Hyrulnizam Jumaat hopes to be included in the starting line up when Singapore take on hosts Laos in the decisive Group B match at the Main Stadium tomorrow.
Both Singapore and Laos are on the same four points from their first two matches and where each will be looking to pick up the full points tomorrow to make sure that they finish at the top of Group B. “I admit that at the start of the game against Myanmar, I felt a little nervous. But I soon settled down to my game,“ said Hyrulnizam. “I believe that I can play even better than how I fared against Myanmar (in a 2-1 win). As a goalkeeper, it is easy to feel pressured and I have learned to maintain my mental focus and not get carried away.” Hyrulnizam said that he feels confident Singapore will be able to put up a good show against Laos especially if they realised the importance of team work. “But Laos have shown that they have been making steady progress and they seem unafraid of playing against anyone,“ he added. In the meantime, defender Safuwan Baharudin will have to sit out the game against Laos due to a suspension from the two yellow cards he picked up in earlier Group B matches. But his thoughts will be firmly placed with his counterparts as he support his team-mates from the stand. “Laos move a lot and they are always attacking. We have to be careful of that,” added Safuwan. “They play as a team and with the fans backing them, they are always spirited. We have to be composed and not let emotions get in the way.” GROUPINGS Group A: Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Timor Leste, Cambodia Group B: Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Indonesia RESULTS AND FIXTURES 2 Dec (Main Stadium): MALAYSIA 11 TIMOR LESTE 0/ THAILAND 1 VIETNAM 1 4 Dec (Chao Anu Vong Stadium): THAILAND 4 CAMBODIA 0/ VIETNAM 4 TIMOR LESTE 0 5 Dec (Main Stadium): SINGAPORE 2 INDONESIA 2/ LAOS 1 MYANMAR 1 6 Dec (Main Stadium): VIETNAM 3 MALAYSIA 1/ TIMOR LESTE CAMBODIA 7 Dec (Chao Anu Vong Stadium): MYANMAR 1 SINGAPORE 2/ INDONESIA 0 LAOS 2 8 Dec (Chao Anu Vong Stadium): TIMOR LESTE 0 THAILAND 9/ CAMBODIA 0 MALAYSIA 4 9 Dec: Opening Ceremony 10 Dec (Main Stadium): Myanmar vs Indonesia (1500hrs)/ Laos vs Singapore (1745hrs) 11 Dec (Chao Anu Vong Stadium): Cambodia vs Vietnam (1500hrs)/ Malaysia vs Thailand (1500hrs) 14 Dec (Chao Anu Vong Stadium): Semi-finals 17 Dec: Third/ Fourth Placing (1500hrs at Chao Anu Vong Stadium)/ FINAL (1700hrs at Main Stadium) CURRENT STANDINGS GROUP A 1.
