HANOI (21 May 2016) – Newly-appointed Vietnam head coach Nguyen Huu Thang has named a squad of 24 players who will carry the nation’s challenge for the Quadrangular Tournament in Myanmar on 3-6 June 2016.
Other than the foreign-based players like Nguyen Tuan Anh (Japan’s Yokohama FC) and Luong Xuan Truong (South Korea’s Incheon United FC) as well as Nguyen Cong Phuong (Mito Holly Hock FC of Japan), the team has also included several veterans
Among them are Le Cong Vinh of Binh Duong, Tran Nguyen Mạnh and Que Ngọc Hai of Song Lam Nghe An as well as Phi Minh Long of Hanoi T&T among others.
However, naturalised players like Hoang Vu Samson from Hanoi T&T and Hai Phong’s Le Van Phu have been left out.
“There are many good players in the world, but they are not called to the national team because, apart from skills, they need to match the team’s way of playing,” said Huu Thang.
“With Vietnam’s team, I am temporarily satisfied with the present footballers. Maybe we will call naturalised footballers in the near future.”
The quadrangular meet will serve as a testing ground for teams taking part in the AFF Suzuki Cup later in the year.
Other than Vietnam and hosts Myanmar, the other teams taking part are Hong Kong and Singapore.
