PHNOM PENH (24 Oct 2012) – Hok Sochetra has quit his post as the Cambodian national chief coach. The former international was in the hot seat for less than four months.
“At the moment, I’m still lacking the necessary experience to lead the national team, but I’m fully committed to developing my coaching experience,” stated Sochetra in his resignation letter to the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC).
The 39-year-old was tasked with leading Cambodia at the recent qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012. Unfortunately, the team’s thumping 5-1 loss to Timor Leste in their first match would dictate the outcome of their campaign.
Cambodia went on to lose 1-0 to Laos, 3-2 to Brunei to be followed by a 3-0 defeat to hosts Myanmar in their final tie.
“We don’t have any international competitions in the near future, so we still have time to think about the replacement,” said Kul Sophanna, the secretary general of the FFC.
