BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (20 August 2016) – BRUNEI’S first-ever Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ‘A’ Certificate Coaching Course drew to a conclusion at the NFABD House in Berakas yesterday.
The course — which provides the highest football coaching certificate in Asia — first ran from Feb 28 to March 12 before a second session which started on Aug 7.
Organised by national football governing body National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD), 16 certificates were presented to seven local coaches, five from Malaysia and one each from England, Maldives, Nigeria and Turkey.
The AFC ‘A’ Coaching Certificate is a selected course for coaches who hold both the ‘C’ and ‘B’ Coaching certificates and is designed to educate them about advanced tactical and technical requirements of teams and team management.
The course was led by NFABD Technical Director Mike Wong Mun Heng and in-house AFC Instructor Stephen Ng Heng Seng.
The course participants also took part in an AED/CPR short course conducted by G. Thiru Kumaran of the Sports Medicine and Research Centre at the Department of Youth and Sports to ensure the participants are properly equipped to handle any form of emergencies.
NFABD executive committee member Hj Mohd Noor Hj Hamid officiated the closing ceremony and said he hopes the participants will make use of the knowledge gained from the course to improve the quality of football in the region.
“I would like to congratulate our 16 participants for successfully obtaining their long-awaited AFC ‘A’ Coaching Course certificate,” said Hj Mohd Noor.
“To our foreign participants, I hope that you have enjoyed your stay here in our humble country as well as the course we have organised.
“This certificate serves as a gateway for participants to push themselves to become a successful coach and to also improve the performance of their football clubs in their countries.
“As a certified coach, this is the best opportunity to test your abilities and to showcase your talents.
“With hard work, strong commitment, dedication and determination, I truly believe that your future as a coach will be brighter.
“I would like to wish the best of luck to you coaches, and I hope that the knowledge that you have gained from the course will greatly benefit you, your respective clubs and teams,” Hj Mohd Noor concluded.
