YANGON (18 May 2018) – Antoine Hey has been appointed as the new head coach of the Myanmar national team, to replace Gerd Zeise who left the post earlier this year.
Hey has signed contract until the end of 2019 and where he will be in charge of the national team and the national U23 side as well.
“If there was no belief to succeed, I will not have accepted this position,” said the German.
“As a new coach, I actually don’t know much about the Myanmar players. I will have to get the advice from the coaching group that we have currently. When I select players, their curent performances will be the top priority, not ages and not size.”
The 47-year-old tactician had previously played as a midfielder with Swiss club Grasshopper FC, German clubs Dusseldorf, Schalke, Fortuna Koln and English clubs Birmingham and Bristol. He retired in 2004.
As a coach, he had previously managed in Gambia, Liberia, Kenya and Rwanda. He also had stints as a technical director to the Bahrain Football Federation and the Liberian Football Federation.
Hey’s first assignment will be against the Chinese national team in Nanjing, China on 26 May 2018.
