HO CHI MINH CITY (4 Dec 2016) – Ho Chi Minh City FC made it a hat trick of titles when they picked up the crown in the Vietnam National Women’s Football Championship this week.
And the decisive winner could not have been more emphatic when HCMC picked up their third crown in three years when they beat Phong Phu Ha Nam in a penalty shootout.
Phong Phu Ha Nam – hoping for their first ever crown – had the best of start in front of their home fans when Vu Thi Thuy gave them the lead after 20 minutes.
The lead was to last just four minutes with Bao Chau firing in from a distant to force the game into penalties.
In the shootout, HCM City emerged victorious 4-2.
“The victory is for our great supporters who have come and encouraged us with great excitement,” said HCMC head coach Doan Thi Kim Chi afterwards.
HCM City also won VND300 million (US$13,400) for their effort while Phong Phu Ha Nam pocketed VND200 million.
