BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Feb 24, 2007) – Brunei will be hosting the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy next month as part of their commitment towards youth football in the region.
The tournament which is for players under the age of 21-years-old will have several old nemeses renewing their old ties with Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam being placed in a difficult Group A. Group B on the other hand will have host Brunei up against Myanmar, Philippines and Cambodia. However, the organisers were quick to say that Laos and Indonesia would not be taking part. “Laos and Indonesia would have been valuable additions in terms of quality,” sad Pengiran Matusin Matasan, the general secretary of the Brunei FA (BAFA). The tournament which will be held in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan will be played from March 3rd to 13th, 2007. The tournament was last held in 2005 with Thailand emerging as the overall winners – beating Myanmar 3-0 in the final.
