KUALA LUMPUR (1 July 2011) – The Malaysian Harimau Muda squad will be based in Slovakia for a month where they are scheduled to play 12 friendly games against First Division clubs.
Harimau Muda have created a stir in Malaysia recently when they qualified for the third round of the 2012 Olympic Games after beating Lebanon in the second round.
Incidentally, the team is also being prepared for the SEA Games which will be played in Indonesia at the end of the year.
“We believe that this will be the best avenue to prepare the team for the 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers as well as for the SEA Games at the end of the year,” said Datuk Razali Ibrahim, the deputy Minister for Youth and Sports.
“We know that the cost is high but we believe that this is the best step to develop football in the country and the government is always supportive of the game. We had previous experience in sending players to Slovakia before and the result has been positive.”
