HARD LESSONS FOR CAMBODIAN FUTSAL

PHNOM PENH (26 Feb 2010) – Cambodian Futsal learned some tough lessons from their recent experience in the ASEAN zone qualifiers of the AFC Futsal Championship in Jakarta – that training is very different from actual matches.

Ouk Chamrong, the head coach for Cambodia, tried to remain positive from the experience saying: “we’ve learned from this experience to strengthen our squad for the future.

“On the pitch and at training, they have two different feelings. If they can manage their mentality well, the results should be better than this.”

In their opening match against Vietnam, the Cambodians fell to a 12-2 defeat before conceding a 13-1 loss to Malaysia in their second game.

In the third game, Cambodia lost 8-4 to the Philippines.

“They are bigger than us and they have good technique in controlling the ball,” said Cambodian captain Diep Sok Meng.

“We should be (able to compete) at this level, if we had more time for training.”
