HANOI (12 October 2017) – Park Hang-seo has set the target of pushing Vietnam to the top 100 in the world – following his official announcement as the new head coach.
“I am only just getting to know the Vietnamese side and I do not have much information yet. However, after seeing how they performed against Cambodia yesterday (2019 Asian Cup qualifying match on Tuesday), I knew there are similarities between me and the team in terms of playing style,” Park said.
“Vietnam are No. 130 in the world and I hope during my term here I can propel them to the top 100.”
Park arrived in Hanoi in time to watch his new team beat Cambodia 5-0 at the My Dinh National Stadium.
His first assignment with Vietnam would be against Afghanistan on 14 November for the next match of the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers.
“I do not have much time to prepare for that game. I will select a team based on the recent list,” he added.
