SURABAYA (19 Dec 2012) – Notwithstanding the looming threat of a FIFA sanction in March 2013, one of Indonesia’s biggest clubs Persebaya Surabaya have already made the announcement that both AS Roma of Italy and Hamburg SV of Germany will head to the city in May next year.
The statement on the club official website read:
“HSV will embark on a marketing tour of Indonesia after the end of the current Bundesliga season. After their final game of the season at home to Bayer Leverkusen in May 2013, the HSV posse will fly to Indonesia from 22 – 28 May and will play friendly games there.
“They will first fly to Jakarta, capital of Indonesia. From there they go to Surabaya, capital of the island of Java. There, apart from sponsoring events, the Rothosen will play two friendly games. On 23 May, they face Persebaya Surabaya (at the Gelora Bung Tomo), who finished last season in second place in the Indonesian Premier League.
“Four days later the Bundesliga side lock horns with Italian side AS Roma (at the same venue). The contracts for the trip were signed by the club and promotion agency Nine Sport at the Imtech Arena last week. A friendly in Hamburg is also part of the contract. On 27 Febrary, HSV will play the Indonesian Under-23 team, marking the start of cooperation between the two sides.”
