SHAH ALAM (29 Oct 2011) – Veteran striker Hairuddin Omar delivered the coveted Malaysia Cup 2011 crown to Negeri Sembilan when he scored the winner to give them a 2-1 win over Terengganu at the Shah Alam Stadium tonight.
Following a first-half deadlock, the east coast side nailed the lead in the 59th minute through Mohd Ashaari Samsudin – the Golden Boot winner last year – made good on a cross from Manaf Mamat.
But Negeri did not relent when in the 81st minute, a freekick from midfielder S. Kunanlan saw the ball taking a wicked bounce which Terengganu keeper Sharbinee Allawee failed to save.
Five minutes later, the 32-year-old Hairuddin showed that he is still lethal when he scored the winning goal with a superb volley off a cross from captain Shukor Adan.
For his effort, Hairuddin was also picked as the Man of the Match in the final game of the Malaysian season.
