HANOI (11 June 2009) – Following the disappointment Hai Phong Cement fans suffered when Brazilian superstar Denilson failed to make his maiden appearance in the V-League, head coach Vuong Tien Dung said that Denilson will take to the field on 21 June in the match against Hoang Anh Gia Lai at Lach Tray Stadium.
The former Real Betis player however said in a recent press conference that he is still under treatment and will need time to play again. “I can only say that I’m in the process of treatment. My injury is recovering quickly and my doctor said that I can play football within one month. Hai Phong knew about my injury before we signed the contract and we believe that everything will be good for both sides,” said Denilson. “I don’t care about information about my injuries. I also don’t believe in any conclusion about my health except for my own doctor. He and I are the people who know about the situation. I can confirm that the injury is not too serious. “My doctor said I can play football within a month and I believe in him. I cannot assert when I will return, perhaps one month, perhaps less than one month.” Asked on Hai Phong’s assertion that he will be ready in time for the match against HAGL, Denilson said that that was the idea of Tien Dung and that the coach has to take responsibility for his statement. He reiterated that he only believes in his own doctor and wouldn’t confirm the time of his appearance. The super star understood that his absence at the match on June 6 disappointed Hai Phong fans. “I would like to thank fans who have created a wonderful atmosphere. I want to repay them. But please be patient! I’ll play for you. With my ability, I can bring you wonderful matches,” he added. Denilson said that it was a loss for him to not play for Hai Phong because besides the USD20,000 a month salary, his income depends on his playing time. Denilson was born on 24 August 24, 1977 in Diadema, Brazil. The winger became the most expensive footballer in the world in 1998 when Spanish Real Betis paid Sau Paulo USD32 million for him. He was recently released by Palmeiras and had a trial with the English Premier League Bolton Wanderers. The 32-year-old winger was a member of the 2002 Brazilian World Cup squad which was held in South Korea and Japan. He also helped Brazil win the Copa America and Confederation Cup in 1997. It is believed that Hai Phong paid more than USD300,000 in transfer fees to ink the player’s signature for the 13 matches left in the second half of V-League season. |
