HANOI (4 Jan 2012) – Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) raced to the top of the newly launched Vietnam Super League with a 3-1 win over Vicem Hai Phong at the Pleiku Stadium as former champions Becamex Binh Duong kept it close with a 2-0 victory over Kien Long Bank Kien Giang at the Go Dau Stadium.
Two goals from Evaldo (41st and 68th minute) put HAGL well on the way before the third goal from Kasule in the 70th minute put them comfortably in front. The only goal from Hai Phong came off Dos Santos in the 77th minute.
Binh Duong on the other hand had a goal in each half to thank for their win over Kien Long. Fortune found the lead on 27 minute before Tang Tuan added the second goal a minute to the end.
Elsewhere, Thanh Hoa were held scoreless by defending champions Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) as Dong Thap came back from two goals down to hold Ninh Binh to a 2-2 draw.
Navibank Saigon also battled Saigon FC to a similar 2-2 stalemate at the Thong Nhat Stadium in a Saigon derby while Hanoi T&T edged neighbour Hanoi FC 1-0 at the Hang Day Stadium.
SHB Da Nang picked up the full points with a 3-2 victory over Khatoco Khanh Hoa 3-2 at the Chi Lang Stadium.
