PETALING JAYA (25 Feb 2017) – Mario Gomez, who led JDT to their first AFC Cup crown in 2015, has been announced as the new head coach of Malaysia following the formal announcement of Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim as the new President of the FA of Malaysia (FAM).
At the 53rd Congress of the FAM this morning, Tunku Ibrahim was officially unveiled as the new President of the national footballing body alongside the appointments of new Deputy Presidents, Vice Presidents and Council members.
At the Press Conference afterwards, it was announced that Gomez will be appointed as the new Malaysian head coach while Datuk Ong Kim Swee – the current chief, will move down to take over the Malaysian Under-22 team.
Frank Bernhardt, the U22 team boss has been removed.
“Gomez will have his assistants and all. I would allow him the freedom to choose. But obviously I will monitor his performance. If I see improvements in their games, then he can there,” said Tunku Ismail.
“If it’s not up to the mark, then we have to change.”
