PALEMBANG (28 Jan 2015) – A solitary strike late from Gilang Ginarsa in the second half gave Arema Cronus a hard fought 1-0 win over Sriwijaya FC in the final of the SCM Cup 2015 that was played at the Jakabaring Stadium in Palembang last night.
But it was Sriwijaya who were pulling all the strings as playing at home gave them the confidence for Titus Bonai and Mouri Makan to pressure the visiting side.
Ferdinand Sinaga almost game Sriwijaya the lead just before the break but his attempt came off the crossbar instead.
The change for Gilang after the restart gave Arema some pace and it changed their rhythm and offensive play. And in the 75th minute, a well taken corner picked out the unmarked Gilang who headed the ball past a rooted Dian Agus.
For Sriwijaya, the introduction of Indonesian international Patrich Wanggai was just a tad too late as it failed to change the inevitable.
