SINGAPORE (12 Feb 2020) – The FA of Singapore (FAS) and the Singapore Premier League (SPL) are pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Gay as GIFC’s new Chairman, succeeding Ben Teng, who will remain at GIFC as its second Club Advisor alongside Tin Pei Ling, to help oversee the club’s strategic direction.
Gay served as the co-founder and Deputy Chairman of Goodrich Global Private Limited, Asia’s leading supplier of wallcoverings, fabrics, carpets and flooring materials.
In addition, he has served as GIFC’s vice-chairman for the past two years. With his keen business acumen, Gay is no stranger to the running and overall operations of the Club. He will be looking to hit the ground running following his appointment.
During Teng’s tenure as Chairman of GIFC from 2016 to 2020, he has overseen several initiatives, where most importantly, he restructured and stabilised the governance of the club, both on and off the field.
Teng also placed an emphasis on youth development. With his extensive network, Teng has forged strong partnerships with its main sponsors, Epson, Broadway, FBT and Goodrich.
Through Epson, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with J.League club Matsumoto Yamaga F.C. in November 2016. GIFC’s players and staff have benefited greatly from the overseas attachments and cultural exchange programmes that resulted from this significant partnership.
FAS and SPL would like to thank Mr Ben Teng for his invaluable contribution to the SPL and Singapore football during his term and wish the new Chairman of GIFC, Mr Thomas Gay, success in his new appointment.
