HO CHI MINH CITY (27 May 2013) – A lone strike from Kizito Geogey gave Xuan Thanh Sai Gon a well-deserved 1-0 win over Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) as the latter fell to their third defeat of the Eximbank V-League 2013 season.
Unbeaten in the last six matches, HAGL were full of confidence against the side from the south but it soon became apparent that it was not going to be an easy afternoon for the former champions.
Tried as hard as they could but they just could not break through a determined Xuan Thanh side who created a string of chances before converting their only goal of the game in the 55th minute.
But the win failed to bring Xuan Thanh any higher than eighth in the standings as HAGL still maintained their second spot behind leaders Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA).
“Losing many players (to injury) forced our defenders to work harder and they made mistakes,” said HAL coach Choi Kyum-hun from South Korea.
