YANGON (23 Jan 2015) – Yangon United and Ayeyawady United picked up full points on the first match day of the new Myanmar National League (MNL) 2015.
Yangon blasted Rakhine United by half a dozen goals at home at the Yangon United Sports Complex while Ayeyawady edged Nay Pyi Taw FC 1-0 on the road at the Paung Laung Stadium.
The 2014 MNL runners-up, Yangon begun strongly and following a gift goal from Rakhine’s Min Ko Thu in the 20th minute, they never looked back as they added further goals through Emerson (60th minute), Cezar (71st and 89th), Khin Maung Lwin (82nd) and Kyaw Ko Ko (84th).
In the meantime Ayeyawady United, the 2014 MFF Ooredoo knockout cup champions, started the season on a positive note when they scored the only goal of the game against Nay Pyi Taw FC off Aung Kyaw Naing two minutes to the end.
Elsewhere, Yadanabon FC drew Magwe FC 1-1 at the Ba Htoo Stadium as Manaw Myay also battled KBZ FC to the same score line at the Aung San Stadium.
Hantharwady United were held 1-1 by Chin United at the YTC Stadium while Zwekapin United drew scoreless against Zeyar Shwe Myay at the Aung San Stadium.
