JAKARTA (24 June 2009) – The Indonesia Under-23 squad suffered their fourth defeat in a row when they succumbed to a 2-0 loss to their counterparts from Singapore on the weekend.
In the match that was played at the Jurong West Stadium, the visitors fell to free kicks from Hariss Harun in the 17th minute and Fazli Ayob in the 61st minute. The loss was the fourth defeat on a trot for the Indonesians following their 5-0 defeat to Iran, 1-2 loss to the Iran U23 team and then a 1-0 concession to the Malaysian U23 squad. “It was a difficult match but the two goals they (Singapore) scored were of quality. I believe that in spite of the scoreline, both teams are on level terms as far as their preparation for the SEA Games are concerned,” said Cesar Payovich Perez, the head coach of the Indonesia U23 squad. Countered Terry Pathmanathan, the head coach of Singapore U23: “The players played with full of belief. They were not shy with the chances they’ve got and they took the risk with the free kicks, which was good.” The match, which was also attended by Nurdin Halid, the president of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI), saw two red cards being flashed – against Cornelis Geddy from Indonesia and Irwan Syah from Singapore for separate incidents. |
