SINGAPORE (15 May 2008) – Kedah and Perak from Malaysia have joined Singapore’s Home United and the Singapore Armed Forces FC in the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup 2008 following their final group games last night.
Their entry into the next round of the Asian-level championship have made it the best ever achievement from Asean teams. Home United had already qualified into the next round of the meet after winning their Group D – and this in spite of their 4-1 loss to Kedah in the final group game last night. The northerners from Malaysia – who suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to Home United at the artificial ground of the Jalan Besar Stadium two months earlier – were in no compromising mood as they bounced back from being a goal down to score four goals for the win. SAFFC in the meantime, were also group winners but suffered their first home loss when they conceded a 2-0 defeat to Perak at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The draw for the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup 2008 will be held on 24 May 2008. |
