PETALING JAYA (29 March 2010) – Malaysia’s Harimau Muda (national Under-21 squad) scored their first win in Slovakia when they edged out MFK Dolny Kubin 3-2.
The victory was their first following the four losses they suffered in earlier matches. “I appreciate the commitment and the spirit shown by the players. The win was so meaningful to them that a few shed tears of joy afterwards,” said head coach Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah after the match. Striker Izzaq Faris Ramlan had given the Malaysian youngsters the best of start with the opening goal on 32 minutes but MFK Dolny fought back to lead the tie 2-1. Izzaq then slammed home the equalizing goal just two minutes to the end before S. Sivanesan then clinched the winner in the last minute of play for Harimau Muda’s first ever win in Slovakia. “If I were to rate the league that we are playing in, I will give them a rating of 6/10 in terms of competitiveness. We are using players under the age of 21-years-old while we are playing against players who are much more mature, so it is very competitive,” added Azraai. As opposed to what was reported earlier that the Slovakian First Division league is not competitive enough, Azraai said that the fact could not be far from the truth. “Our youngsters are up against European players who have the advantage in terms of experience, physical, discipline and tactical,” he added. |
